Four Corner Fielding Ground Balls

This baseball fielding ground balls drill will help develop and perfect infielder's and outfielder's fielding technique and fielding ground balls.

Setup

Split the team into groups of four with one ball per group. Align each group in the shape of a square about 10 yards apart. Focus on fielding ground balls.

Instructions

Player 1 rolls the ball to player 2.

Player 2 throws a normal ball to player 4.

Player 4 rolls the ball to player 1.

Player 1 throws a normal throw to player 3.

Player 3 rolls the ball to player 4.

Player 4 then throws a normal ball to player 2.

Player 2 rolls the ball to player 3.

Player 3 throws a normal ball to player 1.

Repeat.

Variations

  1. Instruct players to roll to glove side.
  2. Have players roll to backhand and focus on fielding backhand ground balls.

Coaching Points

  1. Make sure players move behind and to glove side of the ball.
  2. Players get down on the ball.
  3. Glove is behind the ball.
  4. Good throwing mechanics after fielding the ball.
  5. Focus on good fielding techniques when fielding ground balls.
