This drill focuses on fielding pop-fly's and will help develop and perfect the technique when fielding pop-fly's.

Setup

Split the team into groups of four with one ball per group. Set up each group into a square about 10 yards apart.

 

Instructions

Player 1 throws a pop-fly to player 2.

Player 2 throws a normal throw diaginally to player 4.

Player 4 throws a pop-fly to player 1.

Player 1 throws a normal throw diagonally to player3.

Player 3 throws a pop-fly to player 4.

Player 4 throws a normal throw diagonally to player 2.

Player 2 throws a pop fly to player 3.

Player 3 throws normally diagonally to player 1.

Repeat this same pattern.

Variations

  1. Vary the height of thepop-flys.

 

Coaching Points

  1. Player moves behind the flight o fthe ball.
  2. Glove behind the ball.
  3. Good throwing mechanics after the catch.
